Lesson 5: Skills 1

I/ OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, students can

- Read for general and specific information about life on other planets

- Talk about what life may  be like on other planets

- Lexical items related to the  facts of  life on other planets

- Divide  the  class into  two team s and ask  them  to   write  the names of planets and the information  about  each planet

- In  5 mins, the  team  with  more correct information is  the  winner

I.  Reading- 15'

1a.Look at the picture... (P64)

- Ask  ss  to  only look  at  two  picture  of two planets and answer the  question

- Collect some ss’ answers

1b.Read the text below and check your answer... (P64)

- Ask ss  to  skim the passage in  3 minutes to check  their answer

2.Match the highlighted words... (p64)

- Run through the  words/ phrases

- Ask ss to work in  pairs to  scan the passage to  find the  words in red and match them  with the definitions

- Call on  some ss to  write on the board

- T confirms the correct  anwers

 

 

3.Match the headings with the paragraphs .... (p64)

- Ask  ss to run through the  headings

- Ask ss to work  in dividually to  match

- Call on  some ss to  read aloud the answer

- Ask some ss to  give comments

4. Read the text again and answer the question... (P64)

 - Let ss 3mins  to read the passage again and work in  pairs to answer and answer  the questions

- Call on  some pairs to  practice aloud  while some ss to  write the answers on the  board

- Ask  other ss to  give comments

- Ask ss to work in pairs to role play

- Call on  some  pairs to practice aloud

 

6.Now swap pairs.... (P64)

Ask  the “human” and the “Martian” to  form new  pairs. This time they  use reported speech to  report their previous partner’s answer

 

 

- Work in  groups of 4 ss

Eg:

New Human: What  kind of  food dis  the  human say  she ate?

New martian: She said thet she ate rice, bread,  fruit and vegetables

……………..
