UNIT 4: OUR CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS Lesson 2: A closer look 1 I/ OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students can: - Pronounce words containing the clusters /spr/ and /str/ correctly in isolation and in context - Talk about customs and traditions 1. Knowledge: a. Grammar : Simple present , Should b. Lexical items : - Vocab: customs and traditions c. Pronunciation: - Clusters: the clusters /spr/ and /str/ 2. Skills: - Listening, Speaking, Reading,Writing and interactive skills 3. Attitude: - Cooperation, respect, having right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers in the new school 4. Quality and competence: - Be confident and friendly with the new school environment - Develope listening, speaking skills and cooperative interaction II/ TEACHING AIDS (MATERIALS) 1.Teacher’s preparation: - Lesson plan, Pictures, posters ,textbook,CD-MP3(Computer-Multi projector/cassette/ “sách mềm”) and other materials 2. Students’ preparation: - Textbook, notebook, school things. Out: .......... . 2- Checking the old lesson 3- New lesson: Teacher’s activities Students’activities I.Warm up(5'): Brainstorming ( adjectives to describe life in the countryside) - Divide the class into 2 two teams - Ask ss from 2 teams turn by turn go to board to write some customs and traditions they remember from the previous lesson. - In 3 minutes the team with more right words is the winner. - Introduce the new lesson -Tell them that in this lesson they are going to learn some expressions with the words custom and ‘tradition’. These will help them vary their language when talking about customs and traditions - Take part in the game in 2 teams I.The new leson A.Vocabulary (20') * Teaching vocabulary - Teacher use different techniques to teach vocabulary (situation, realia) - Follow the seven steps of teaching vocabulary * Checking vocab: Slap the board - Draw Ss’ attention to the Watch out! Box. Explain to them the words ‘custom’ and tradition’ can be countable or uncountable. - Christian (n): Người theo đạo cơ đốc - sponge cake (n): Bánh xốp - break with (v): Không theo - shake hand (v): Bắt tay - espresso (n): Cà phê pha qua phin - spray (v): Xịt - Repeat in chorus and individually - Copy all the words 1.Match the first halves of the sentences (A) with the second halves (B) (p40) - Have Ss look at the table in the book. Make sure that they understand what to do. - Ss complete the exercise individually and then compare their anwers with a partner. - Call some Ss to give the answers. - Write them on the board. Confirm the correct answers. - Have Ss read the sentences again to see if the word ‘custom’ or ‘tradition’ in each sentence is countable (C) or uncountable (U). Ask for Ss’ answers. - Complete the exercise individually 1. Key: 1.e 2.d 3.a 4.g 5.b 6.c 7.f 2. Read full sentences in 1 again and complete the expressions below. (p40) - Have Ss read the sentences in 1 again and complete the expressions. - Then Ss compare their answers with a partner. - Call one or two Ss to write the complete expressions on the board 3. Read the following customs and traditions. Make sentences to say if you have these in your province or area, using any of the expressions in 2. Remember to change the verb tense if necessary (p40) - Run through the sentences - Ask Ss to work in groups to do this activity. - T prepare some pieces of big-size paper for the groups to write their answers on. When they finish, Ss stick their paper on the board. (p40) - Ask ss to individually complete the sentences with their own ideas, then share their sentences with a partner. - Have some ss write the sentences on the board. - Other ss comment. - T confirms the correct answers. B. Pronunciation (15'') /spr / and / str/ 5. Complete the words under the pictures with spr and str. Then listen and repeat. (p40) -Ask ss to work individually then compare with a partner. Ask for Ss’ answers and write them on the board. Don’t say if they are right or wrong. -Play the recording for them to check the answer and repeat the words.
